I first met April when my husband and I attended an antenatal class in Peterborough back in 2014. We were expecting our very first baby, so everything was rather new, exciting, and daunting!

When April walked into the class as our facilitator, she immediately put our minds at rest and brought a smile and a giggle to everyone's face with her bubbly and friendly personality! April spoke in detail of what us new parents can expect, or what indeed to be aware of, covering all areas appropriate to that class. She answered any questions with ease, no judgement and confidence. I remember walking out from that class hoping that I'd have her as my Midwife when it came to the time of giving birth, who'd be better?!

Alas! April wasn't on duty when I came to give birth to our son. However, my prayers were answered when April was our appointed midwife who came out to carry out that first day check-up on mother and baby. I couldn't believe it when I opened the door and it was her, I knew immediately that I was in safe hands and extremely well supported. I'm not ashamed to say that I was in a bit of a tizz at that stage. I had just gone through a rather difficult birth, resulting in an emergency c-section. I was very tearful, fragile, frightened and in physical pain. It was overwhelming, being a new mum to this beautiful, dependent, and very tiny baby!

April soon gave me a big hug, then showered us with her caring, supportive, and upbeat humour, of which we both so very needed at that time! April kindly arranged it so she could be the midwife that performed the next few checks on us, before formally being discharged from her care and passed into the hands of the health visitors. I wish April could have stayed with us for longer if the rules allowed! I missed her coming round, though I guess it was only fair that she moved on to assist the next lady(ies) with her delightful presence.

In conclusion, I couldn't have wished for a better midwife, April will always stay with me in my heart forever. Good luck with it all :)

I feel so lucky to have been on the receiving end of support and care given by April. She was my midwife and supported me through the most vulnerable journey a woman goes on. April was able to reassure, support, guide and even make me laugh during labour. Her shift finished before my daughter was born, after spending hours with me, I remember feeling disappointed, but I was absolutely blown away when she came to visit me the next morning on the ward.
April clearly doesn’t just stop working, she told me she had spoken to the midwife that took over from her to check everything was ok, then visited us before her next shift started to see us again. I will never forget her care, her confidence in her role, how calm she was and how she influenced me.

She’s a gorgeous human and I really wish her all the best in her career.

It was three years ago, and I was a bit of a mess but what I do remember is how you made me feel at ease, nothing was too much trouble, you were confident with what you were saying and most importantly, you got me through it until the end and I remember you stayed with me even though your shift had finished and that meant the world!

Whilst my experience with my second little boy was ok, you definitely made my first delivery better.
